“These days we choose our touring entourage very carefully,” says Sheila Baptista of Lewis and Kirk Music. She is producer for several savvy and sensational female and male bands with members who have even debuted with the late, Ray Charles.
Ms. Baptista’s bands--which each year regularly tours sought after vacation and entertainment “hot spots” across the northeast and the south--include:
*SAGE - an unparalleled septet of all ladies jazz, blues and R&B ensemble
*Aj/The AndJam Band –an award winning seven piece R&B, Jazz and Caribbean ensemble featuring Andrea and James Rohlehr
*Ragan Whiteside and The FAM – a new breakout band under the leadership of the incomparable jazz and R&B flutist and vocalist Ragan Whiteside
*KJ Denhert - whose special blend of urban folk & jazz has earned her four Independent Music Award nominations; and
*Blue Mystic – a great Philly Sound tribute trio that offers the slickest dance moves with the tight harmonies of the 60’s and 70’s era and the impressive wardrobe to compliment.
“Our bands are each unique. Their entourage must be special and like dynamic business-teams that work!” Ms. Baptista adds, “We work only with people with whom we have common interests. They must be problem-solvers and have great dispositions. They of course have to be self-starters, financially astute, creative and independent people.”
Ms. Baptista says, “the people who are interested in our entourage usually seek a fantastic ‘win-win’ opportunity to work and play, if you will. They are usually business sponsors, new emerging artists, media, marketing and other social networking/technical talent, and retired volunteers who invest in our music and understand our access to great audiences and tourist markets. They usually love to promote ‘our bands’ and their self interests too.”
The up-and-coming bookings for the various bands include dates and negotiations for Hampton, VA, New Rochelle, NY, Bridgeport CT, Atlanta, GA, Raleigh/Durham, NC, and Labor Day week-end at Martha’s Vineyard, MA.
